29th-31st August 2006 - C.Sides, Jerusalem

C.Sides was strange, strange becase it was in israel, strange because it was an electronic music festival (of the bleepy german techno kind) and strange because it was held in an international convention center.

Under the circumstances we had to think hard about the wisdom and ethics of travelling to Israel to do a gig: we went because of the nature of the event: it was a festival of political media art, put together by and for people who think that an active dialogue between different nationalities, and an open forum for discussion of the current problems can achieve more than a boycott that tends to silence by isolation voices of dissent within Israel.

Let there be no doubt we are opposed to the current Israeli military actions, the ongoing occupation of the West Bank, and the support and collusion of the UK and US governments. If you've seen the show you'll have a clear idea of our take on the inexorable expansionism of the western military insustrial complex.

We acknowledge the support of the British Council Israel's BI Arts programme who are covering our expenses for the C.Sides festival, which has avoided all direct state and commercial funding in order to maintain its political independence.
